You scroll and you like those aesthetic swipe posts of the Frazzled English Girl but in reality I don’t think there is anything particularly inspiring about actually being frazzled. Hair sticking out in every direction, wearing the same pair of grey joggers that you’ve been wearing all week, room looks like a bomb site, neck deep in admin and also neck deep in your 100th re-watch of Teen Wolf.
I am giving frazzled but not in the Pinterest, Bridget Jones's Diary way,- in the bed-rotting, not really knowing what day of the week it is, 16- hour sleep, 400 steps a day - that kind of frazzled.
I am in my flop era!!!!
My girls' group chat is cheekily named "Getting on My Zoom," which is ironically fitting because, in reality, none of us are actually "getting on our Zoom." Instead, it's a warzone of complaints and endless screenshots of other people's Instagram profiles, where we complain (and complain) about how everyone else is "eating" while we endlessly gripe about how we've "flopped."
The complaints list looks something like this:
It’s too expensive to stay blonde
My weave is loose but it was £300 to install
Tampons are £4
Scarves from Urban Outfitters are £26
Scarves from Lucy&Yak are £32
Jesus Wept.
How are we supposed to do anything BUT flop in these abysmal conditions!!
Darkness looms.
I am being dramatic but seriously, the 5 degree temperatures that I’m waking up to have shocked me cold ( literally.)
Yet in these depressive times or in other words: “flop era” - we must focus on what is on its way:
Halloween: Now as a girl raised in a Ghanaian (very) Christian household, trick-or-treating was off the cards and so was dressing up. Whether or not you celebrate or you don’t, pumpkins are back and so are pumpkin patches. Time to get spooky and kiss a boy in a Ali G costume.
Bonfire Night: This is a British thing so unfortunately for the non-British that are reading this - apologies. Wrapping up in those £32 scarves, double layered in leggings and jeans, watching shitty fireworks from Tesco - now that is my idea of a good time.
Babsii November Issue - Vogue better watch out because we’re completely sold out and our eyes are now set on our November issue. If in your flop era, this should be enough to get you out of it.
Christmas: Need I say more???
In 2 weeks I’ll be back at university and that news is enough to make a cat pur. Pub nights, late library dates, being a 2 minute walk from the girls - I absolutely cannot wait.
It’ll be my last time driving up to my Uni and whilst I am swarming off the anxieties about post-uni, I am set on making this year a good one.
I need to get out of this flop era because come this time next week, I’ll be lounging around on a rooftop bar in Barcelona. By the time that EasyJet flight takes off, I better be in some new sweats, glowing skin and no longer frazzled.
Amen.
