Smash or Pass: Grammy Edition
Award season is here and that means it’s time for me to turn into the version of Anna Wintour that is clad in a pink Oodie and a dissertation to write (unfortunately I don’t think that version exists). Today I will judge looks that cost more than my entire life, my liver and my left leg ( probably my right one too).
Let’s start this party with Gracie Abrams who rolled up to the event dressed by Chanel:
SMASH OR PASS: Well, neither a smash nor a pass but instead a kiss at the club, followed by a drunken cry.
The dress itself, I’m not entirely crazy about. I felt as though the black belt wasn’t needed but then I guess I am quite pleased that it matched her shoes. The veil/headscarf however, I LOVE! It’s very much Dune, very very elegant and I think it looks absolutely amazing on her!
Sabrina Carpenter in custom JD Anderson
SMASH OR PASS: Smash and keep texting until I’m blocked…
I’m absolutely obsessed with this look! The blue is stunning, and the tufts of feathers and pearls are peak Miss Carpenter energy. It’s perfectly suited for the Grammys, and I especially love how it gives her a bit of extra height—the backless design and floor-grazing length create such an elongating effect. Our tiny queen is serving stature and elegance. LOVE!
Kacey Musgraves in Ralph Lauren Collection
SMASH OR PASS: Pass.
I just overall think that the entirety of the outfit is quite horrid and incredibly confusing? I mean it all technically kind of works together but I think she perhaps forgot that she was attending the Grammys. The top half is giving the Zara viral tank top and I mean that in a derogatory way. The skirt? Peak millennial energy and looks like it was fished out of the Zara sale bin—way in the back, probably on the floor. She’s been praised for “returning to her western roots,” but the only remotely western element here is the questionable (arguably fugly) belt.
Still, Deeper Well remains my anthem.
Charli XCX in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture
SMASH OR PASS: SMASH but ignore the fact that he kind of smelt bad…
I really really like the dress, the corset is great and the explosion of fabric makes the entire look fun and very on brand for Charli. The shoes are kind of throwing me off, but only because I wouldn’t personally wear them ( they look great on her though!) I think the shoes work with the outfit as a whole and whilst I genuinely could never, she looks 10/10.
Olivia Rodrigo in Vintage Versace, Stuart Weismann shoes and Tiffany and Co jewellery
SMASH OR PASS: Meh, a humble smash
Contrary to my housemates' opinion, I am not obsessed with this look. Olivia looks great as she usually does but I feel like it’s kind of basic and dare I say a little prom-y? It kind of looks like it could have been sold by Club London on ASOS (derogatory) . I would have preferred for her to maybe wear an updo to show the stunning back of the dress and it’s high neck and perhaps a bolder make-up look too. Still though, I could never say no to a face like that…
Taylor Swift in Vivienne Westwood
SMASH OR PASS: Pass (friendzoned)
People are saying they’re disappointed by Taylor’s outfit, but honestly, I’m not sure why anyone expected Aunty Swift to slay on the red carpet. She looks fine—nothing exceptional—and while the short dress isn’t necessarily bad, it doesn’t feel particularly fitting for the event, especially since the design itself isn’t anything groundbreaking (though, let’s be real, her legs look insane). Unfortunately, I do think it’s time to retire the fringe, but I can at least appreciate the effort to jazz things up with the bedazzled garter… a little sparkle never hurts (I think?)
Jaden Smith in Louis Vuitton and Abodi
SMASH OR PASS: Eyeroll
Doechii in Thom Browne and David Yurman
SMASH OR PASS: Smash.
I really like the silhouette of the dress and the way it generally fits her but I do not like the corporate style at all and that might come from my general hatred toward the corporate world… She looks absolutely stunning though, I love, love, love, her hair and her performance was nothing short of killer.
Kendric Lamar in Maison Margiela
SMASH OR PASS: Smash and hope he thinks I’m the coolest xx
I really really like it! It is extremely casual but more so in a cool way. It’s better than a boring old tux that the men invited to these events often wear and it fits his IDGAF vibe. You can never go wrong with double denim.
Lady Gaga in Vivienne Westwood
SMASH OR PASS: A kiss in the club, a kiss in Mcdonalds afterwards but that’s where it ends ( No contact details exchanged)
I appreciate the look as a whole although I don’t like the puffy, crinkled material of the skirt. I think the jacket and jewellery are quite cool but I actually found myself paying a lot more attention to her hair and glam. I think she looks great, the hair suits her and she can do what most can’t: rock bleached eyebrows.
Julia Fox
SMASH OR PASS: The largest pass.
I do not appreciate this look one bit—in fact, I hate it. There’s something incredibly sinister about it, and not in a chic, mysterious way… just purely unsettling.
