THE COOL GIRLS GUIDE TO HALLOWEEN

The Cool Girls Guide to Halloween

By Emily Campbell

I have the same dilemma every year, no matter how much I love fashion or Halloween; what can I possibly dress up as to let everyone know that I am so very cool (and interesting) and also into fashion?

Ladies, it’s a big problem but don’t worry, I’m here to help! There is a way avoid the shit-show that is finding a costume: to ensure that you radiate FASHION ICON energy this Halloween, I’ve pulled together some fun ideas.

A selection of spooky (and sexy) costumes for people who just want to show off their very cool clothes:

Samantha Jones

First up is the legendary Miss Samantha Jones -a style icon and devoted leopard print aficionado since the early '90s, this costume is effortlessly chic and likely awaits in your own wardrobe—if you're a fashionista at heart.

Samantha’s signature looks almost always consists of red, gold, leopard print and/or sequins, so basically, it’s time to make red, gold, leopard print and/or sequins your best friend! Miss Jones loves a chunky piece of jewellery , so some statement earrings or a bold necklace will really complete the look.

Chappell Roan

For hair and makeup, obviously, Samantha sported a modern Marilyn blowout bob and a sultry red lip. If that’s not your preferred look, then just make sure your outfit really pops and that you drink Cosmos all night to ensure you’re unmistakably New York’s It Girl.

Next we have Chappell Roan, who shot to celebrity status this year and is now known for her bold stage looks.

Other than being entirely revolutionary in themselves, these looks give us a wide range of costume ideas to work with.  You can have a tonne of creative freedom with this costume, not only with the look that you choose but also how you choose to recreate it. Whether it be a look from Pink Pony Club music video, Chappell’s Statue of Liberty look or one of her many other stage outfits, dressing up as Chappell Roan gives you free rein to add your own touches to her looks, whilst still being recognisable as the contemporary pop star.

This one is definitely for the girls with makeup skills though- Chappell’s makeup looks are always unbelievable and executing them properly will take your costume to the next level!

Angelina Ballerina

For our 2000’s babies, a little childhood nostalgia in the shape of Angelina Ballerina, could be the costume of the year. This costume works amazingly for our readers who love the ‘clean girl aesthetic’ - I’m guessing you’ll already have the bows and the ballet flats ready to go.

You can always buy a tutu and leotard, but I think this costume is really doable with anything pink - as long as you add the mouse ears, a tail and a cute little ballet bun with some ribbons, you’re good to go.

Okay, now onto spookier costumes!

Pearl

This costume is undeniably a hidden gem, especially given the freshness of the franchise. However, I have a feeling that in the coming years, Pearl will become a sought-after choice for many. Why not seize the moment and set the trend?

This costume itself is quite easy, all you really need is a red bra (or a top if you want to be a little more modest), some dungarees and either docs or a pair of cowboy boots – which I know everybody has a pair of!

A cute bow makes this outfit - but if you haven’t already got one – then even little ribbons in your hair will look great!

Again- the red lip is an essential, and you can also slap on some fake blood if you want to double down on the scary look.

Bella Baxter

Okay, so if anyone has seen this film, you’ll know it’s both weird and creepy, but that makes it perfect for a Halloween look…

There are a couple of Bella’s iconic looks which could potentially be done quite easily, especially if you already have this kind of style. Luckily both puff sleeves and frilly collars are very popular this year, so if you don’t already have any, there are loads available on the resell market and on the high-street.

We also have Bella’s wedding look which is very corpse bride- aka Halloween! Any kind of second hand wedding dress would be great for this- but if you’re a bit worried about pulling a Cady Heron then it would also work with a short babydoll dress – providing you wear the veil and bouquet all night!

Bella’s long, black hair is her signature look, but temporary dye and extensions (or a wig)  can work if you don’t have it naturally. And if all else fails, let the outfit steal the show!

If you take any inspiration from this article please show us your looks! We are @babzmag on Instagram and @babsiimag on Tiktok. We would love to see your take on the costumes!

Get preparing ladies, the countdown to the 31st starts now.
